This project comprised of structural repairs and refurbishment of a listed building at the entrance to Bishop Auckland Market Place, and played an important part in Auckland Castle Trust’s plans to regenerate the town.
The stone built property required substantial structural repairs including replacing roof coverings and timbers; repointing and repairs to masonry and replacement of cast iron rainwater goods.
The existing box sash windows were repaired however, some were beyond saving so some new, replacement windows were manufactured by our Specialist Joinery Division under the supervision of the local Conservation Officer.
Internally timber floors were replaced, existing wall plaster was removed and replaced with traditional lime plaster; timberwork, doors, skirting boards and architraves were all renewed.
A new heating system was installed and the property was rewired throughout.
This sympathetic restoration was completed whilst working in close collaboration with Auckland Castle Trust and Conservation Officer.
