Specialist Joinery Division completes stunning project at Blyth’s Commissioner’s Quay Inn

Our specialist joinery division recently completed a stunning project at the Commissioner’s Quay Inn, which is located on Blyth’s impressive harbour development.  The interior of the building was enhanced with a beautiful mix of materials to bring the outside in and to evoke the waterfront feel. Our team of joiners created many of the features that combine to make this such a fabulous scheme.  Natural and reclaimed oak timber is highlighted throughout, from the wall panelling, counter and table tops as well as the bespoke, curved bar dining area which is a focal point of the design. We also produced and installed the banquet seating. The overall look is a nod to the heritage of the quay, with a rustic blend of wood and open brickwork that’s very much designed for the demands of modern dining.

In addition, our team manufactured the worktops in the buffet counter area including the timber and solid surface materials.

The investment in such high-quality craftsmanship has resulted in a uniquely designed space that respects the character of the adjacent conservation area, with the mix of materials paying homage to the site’s industrial past.

Creating valuable space for learning at Holy Family School in Darlington

We are making great progress at Holy Family School, in Darlington, where we are refurbishing the adjacent parish hall and changing its use to become part of the school.

The photographs show the space as we took it over. Already, the stripping out works, installation of new stud work and first fix M&E are complete and the next stage of the project will involve closing of the stud walls, plastering, second fix Fix M&E and joinery.

As well as recovering the existing roof, the interior will be reconfigured to enable the school to create additional space for learning and to enhance its facilities. The finished scheme will see the original building transformed and we are looking forward to posting updates of the site as the work develops.

Working with apprentices

We have a number of apprentices working on our Westdale Road site, in central Thornaby, including Nathan, who works for Buildroute as a bricklayer and lives within the local catchment to the development.

Nathan is currently studying towards his Level 1 bricklaying apprenticeship at East Durham College.  Wayne Howmans, Site Manager at Westdale Road, said: “Nathan is progressing well in his first year as an apprentice. He is working well with the bricklaying squad he has been placed with, and shows willingness to learn and care for the work he carries out.  The squad he is with still have employed an apprentice that they trained previously, now out of his time he has become a full-time member of the team.”

If anyone currently lives in a local Thirteen Group property and is interested in an apprenticeship, please contact us on [email protected].
