DISCUSSING PLANS FOR FUTURE ENGAGEMENT ON APPRENTICESHIPS

It was great to catch up with the Employability Team at Thirteen Group to discuss our plans for future engagement on apprenticeships and work experience.  We are looking forward to developing our partnership alongside the Westdale Road project, in Thornaby. The site, which features 37 plots, is beginning to take shape, with all the foundations and sub-structures in place.

Thank you to Peter Venis (Employment Engagement Officer), Philip Bentham (Employability Team Manager) and Nusrat Razzaq (Training Officer) for their warm welcome and for sharing some fantastic ideas to encourage and support more people to gain employability skills in the construction sector.

Peter said: “The commitment to social value and proactive approach makes it easy and enjoyable to work with T Manners & Sons. I’m excited to see how this partnership develops, some great ideas for projects to upskill & give experience to members of our community have been seeded”.

Trish Manners, Head of Business Support at T Manners & Sons, added: “It is great to have the opportunity to not just build a quality product for our clients but also to help make a real difference in what we make and the surrounding communities they are built in.”

Future Talent

Good luck to all of the students currently sitting their exams. Thinking about your next move can be tricky. Take each step at a time – do it well, with the right attitude and positive intentions. A career in construction can be both challenging and rewarding. As a key economic contributor for the UK it is an important industry to support.

Last week during the half term break we provided support to three aspiring students; one trying to decide on what trade to pursue an apprenticeship so they rotated round our key personel and went on a site visit to help gain invaluable insight and exposure, another benefited from work experience with our Accounts Team and another spent time with our Administration Department to understand what it is like to work in an office environment. The latter will join us again in the Summer as a Trainee to build on their experience whilst earning.

Ongoing opportunity. We only have the capacity currently to explore an Administrator Apprentice for later this year. This year has already seen a Manager Trainee, Labourer Trainee and Site Joiner Apprentice with some internal opportunitues for current employees as well as maintaining appropriate levels of support for our existing apprentices and commiting to apprentices on contract through our supply chain.

Watching this space helps you learn about what we do and aspects involved within the industry and the projects we undertake. The roles are vast, so if you have any questions whilst we may not have an appropriate opportunity with us at present we might be able to help you on your journey with our insight and support

Our Journey

Keeping Abreast

Apologies we have been a little quiet on here, please keep abreast on our social media platforms which we have been able to maintain in recent months. Once we get some technical issues resolved we hope to have all communication platforms current.

We have been busy on the final stages of a number of projects so look forward to posting casestudies on these as they complete.

We have also been working on our holistic offering through our H&S standards, Environmental Impact and Investment in People. Updates and the fruits of our labour which will hopefully shine through in the products we complete.

A focus on our #EnvironmentalImpact which is incredibly important to us. It needs to be. As a contractor we still have the opportunity to make waves and work with our clients as well as take accountability of how we price, what we use, how we operate and general best practice against our working environments and ways of working. Our ripples through our employees and communities hopefully contribute to additional wider change. One exciting initiative is that we invested in a tree planted for every employee which offsets half our carbon footprint and look to further explore strategies beyond offsetting to become #carbonneutral and beyond to reduce, recycle, reuse. In sourcing some anniversary promotional pens we also opted for ones made from recycled water bottles and mechanical pencil style as they are refillable so will hopefully outlive the branding! This video from the Federation of Master Builders is a great sum up for the industry. https://vimeo.com/642398160

Can we justify this as our reason for adding a little Christmas sparkle at HQ and we have already put our tree and decorations up this week to help add a little uplift and stretch out the festivities a little longer!
